Walt Disney Studios has struck up a partnership with Microsoft to deliver feature films to US members of the Xbox Live marketplace - the leading high-definition download service.
As of today, US gamers will be have access to a growing catalogue of new and classic films from Walt Disney Studios, which includes Touchstone Pictures, Hollywood Pictures and Miramax films.
"We're always looking for more ways to let people experience our films," said Dan Cohen, executive vice president, Disney-ABC Domestic Television. "With the millions of Xbox 360 consoles in living rooms today with a direct, high-speed Internet connection, Xbox LIVE really has become a terrific device for the delivery of digital entertainment content."
The partnership will provide a library of new and old film titles from July, with more to come in both standard and high-definition. In the seven months since video content was launched on Xbox Live, there have been nearly ten million downloads.
Xbox Live content is available to all Xbox 360 owners. High-definition new releases are 480 Microsoft points while standard-definition new release rentals are 320 points each. Classic feature films in high definition are 360 Microsoft points and classic feature films in standard definition are 240 points.
