Last week we reported on Warner's extended HD DVD feature set for the film "300" - including Internet connectivity and more options than the Blu-ray disc version offers.
Other studios are expected to push out a modest amount of titles that take advantage of the new functionality, and though Internet features may not sound hugely exciting, they're something else to be used in the war of words between the two sides.
Bandai Visual's "Freedom" will come with the ability to download additional content from the web. That won't so easily happen on Blu-ray titles until BD-J is standardised and mandatory at the end of October.
It's not all immediate advantage for HD DVD, though. The online functionality has only come about because of a firmware upgrade to Toshiba's players. Additionally, only in September will Toshiba catch up with the 1080p/24 functionality that Blu-ray players already have.
So, sometime towards the end of this year, players from both sides should have a near complete set of specifications.
