LG has announced that it's developed a new plasma production technique to increase PDP output at its panel making facility in Gumi, Korea.
The technique, which has been dubbed '8-up', means that LG's new A3 plasma line can now produce eight 42in panels instead of six from a single glass substrate. This should see monthly production capacity rise from 360,000 to 440,000 panels.
Global demand for plasmas is expected to rise continuously through the Christmas season. "To accommodate increasing demand for plasma display panels, LG will maximize its production efficiency, especially in the second half of the year," said Kang Shin-ik, CEO of the Digital Display Division at LG Electronic.
LG say this is all part of an ongoing production streamline process after announcing the closure of its oldest plasma facility earlier this year.
