With the growing demand for high-definition media using HD camcorders and high-resolution digital camcorders, memory cards are demanding larger capacities and higher data transfer speeds.
Panasonic has answered these calls with the launch of an 8GB Pro High Speed SD Memory Card (RP-SDV08GE1K) to accompany its range of existing SD cards in 1GB, 2GB and 4GB sizes. The company is also expecting to release a 16GB memory card later this year and we may even see a 32GB version by next year.
The latest 8GB SD card carries a SDHC specification that’s compatible with SD Memory Card Ver. 2.0 standard and Class 6 speed specification, which guarantees a minimum data transfer speed of 6MBs per second.
It’s massive storage capacity means it can store a high-definition film of about two hours in AVCHD mode or approximately 3080 high-resolution still images. The data transfer of up to 20MB per second is fast enough for professional and broadcast-use digital devices.
The RP-SDV08GEIK will be available in September priced around £100.
