Samsung has released a few more details about its eagerly anticipated Blu-ray/HD-DVD combo player to keep us interested after a long wait.
Unlike LG's rival BH100 dual format player, Samsung's BDP-UP5000 will support all features from both formats, including Internet extras through an Ethernet connection.
It has no problems playing 1080p content and will also get rid of the stuttered motion effects created by pull down conversion and can output HD films using native 24p frames – or as quickly as 60 frames per second for faster videos.
More details are expected at Berlin's IFA exhibition in late August. Although prices haven't been confirmed yet, it's expected to be less expensive than LG's model and should be available around October or November.
But, as long as you ca buy separate Blu-ray and HD-DVD players for less money then a dual player is simply not worth it.
