Sony announce US price cuts for PS3 - but not in Europe

Sony%20PS3.pngSince questioning the status of the PS3's price cuts earlier today, Sony has announced that the 60GB games console will be $100 cheaper in the US while the new 80GB model will take over the original $599 price point.

However, there's no confirmation of similar discounts will reach European consumers and Sony sadly insists that the cut does not affect any other PS3 market.

Jack Tretton, president and CEO of Sony Consumer Electronics said, “As we move into the next phase of PS3, it’s important that we continue to evaluate our product line, offering consumers the technology and features that meet their growing needs for new forms of media and the way in which it is delivered. The introduction of the 80GB PS3, the new pricing for the current 60GB model, the availability of more than 100 new software titles this fiscal year and, finally, the expansion of services for PlayStation Network, will provide even more options for users and will help bring new consumers into the PS3 fold.”

If the discounted prices rejuvenate sales in the States there's still a chance that a similar marketing ploy will make it over here.

OK, clear message from Sony. We are overpriced and we know it. You Europeans can wait the same length as the Americans did before they got their price cut and like it. Clear message from the buying public, hopefully, lets all WAIT until Sony stop treating us like second class customers and give all territories equal treatment.
