Sony refuses to enter the 100in screen market

100inLCD.jpgThere isn't much call for giant screen sizes, which are usually flaunted as status symbols by attention seeking manufacturers. As such, Sony has decided not to enter big screen bragging rights by refusing to produce a massive screen to match the 100in+ monsters from companies like Panasonic, Sharp and even LG.

"I think it is unnecessary for many companies to make a 100-inch TV," explains Sony Corp President Ryoji Chubachi.

That's not to say that Sony screens will not be getting larger but, at least for now, Sony is steering away from releasing a giant LCD panel. "We are not thinking of that right now. Yet of course we don't know what we will do in the future," said Chubiachi.

The company believes that demand for extremely large screen sizes is still too small and it has other business areas to focus on before it enters that segment. But, then again, as Sony buys its panels from Samsung we're not even sure it could make a 100in screen.
