Swedish woman's 40Gbps internet connection: download a high definition DVD in 2 seconds
This surely has to be both the high definition and broadband dream of the future - for the masses, at least.
A 75-year-old woman from Sweden has a 40Gbps broadband connection to her house, thanks to her son, Peter Löthberg, being a pioneer in the world of fibre-optic networking for Cisco.
It means that she could theoretically receive 1,500 high definition TV channels simultaneously, or download a full high definition DVD in two seconds.
Imagine the possibilities (even ruling out the pirates for a moment). If bandwidth allowance were also equally generous, you could rely on a completely disc-free HD set up. High definition video on demand would be a real possibility, given that you'd only wait a few seconds.
You could have multiple high definition TV channels streamed into your home with virtually no limit.
I'm taking bets on how long it will take the UK to come anywhere near that kind of speed, in even urban areas. To the nearest decade...
