Warner releasing 'Best Of' Blu-ray and HD-DVD box sets
Warner Home Video will be releasing the equivalent of a Greatest Hits collection with new 'Best Of' box sets using both HD-DVD and Blu-ray formats.
It looks like an attempt to entice high-definition newcomers while the September 18th release date is just in time to take advantage of Christmas shoppers. Each Best Of volume will include four film titles ranging from a wide variety of relatively new releases and old classics with three different volumes available in each high-definition format.
“This is a way to give consumers the opportunity to buy some of our most popular titles as a kind of starter kit,” said Steve Nickerson, Warner Home Video senior VP of market management. “Here’s a group of movies that we know from sales most people are buying. The idea is to offer consumers an easy way to purchase movies—there is a value there.”
Film titles include Lethal Weapon, Training Day, The Last Samurai, blazing saddles and Goodfellas. The box sets are expected to sell at around $85 in the US, which is a 30% discount from the combined titles original prices.
