According to a report by Home Media Research, Blu-ray high-definition discs have outsold HD-DVDs by a margin of 2 to 1 during the first half of 2007.
The study claims that 1.6 million Blu-ray discs were sold during the first six months of this year – compared to 795,000 DVDs. Home Media also calculate that 3.7 million high-definition discs have been sold since the two competing formats were launched last year with Blu-ray accounting for 2.2 million discs and HD-DVD for 1.5 million.
Recent sales have benefited by the release of Warner Video’s 300, the fastest selling high-definition disc of all time, which sold 190,000 Blu-ray versions compared to 97,000 HD-DVD versions.
It seems like Blu-ray is running away with software sales but expect a swift response from the HD-DVD camp - no doubt brandishing figures of standalone player sales.
