There's something a bit odd about releasing "Best of Blu-ray" disc bundles when the format is so young — a bit like releasing the "Greatest Hits" of a teeny band who have only been together for a year and had two top 40 hits.
Maybe that's a bit unfair, but Disney's new range of "best of" bundles certainly feels like another marketing drive for a slowly emerging format. Yes, I know, "duh!" on the marketing comment, but even so...
HD Digest reports that there's an "Action Movies" four pack, which includes "Pearl Harbor", "Gone in 60 Seconds", "The Guardian", and "Deja Vu"; a "Family Movies" pack with "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl", "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest", "Invincible", and "Eight Below"; and a "Disney Movies" pack containing "The Wild", "Chicken Little", "Dinosaur", and "Bridge to Terabithia".
The deal? They all contain the same cover art, specs, and extras, but are being sold at around a 30% discount, depending on where bought. These are based on US prices - will be interesting to see if we get a discount in the UK.
Warner is also due to release compilation bundles very soon.
