Fox and MGM respond to Paramount/Dreamworks with Blu-ray proclamation
Most likely as a PR exercise, Fox and MGM have responded to yesterday's announcement by Paramount and Dreamworks to exclusively support HD DVD by proclaiming the popularity of Blu-ray over HD DVD.
Mike Dunn, President Worldwide at 20th Century Fox, said, ""Given that Blu-ray has consistently outsold HD DVD all year, we believe that the time is right for us to accelerate our activities and help convert the nearly 60 million high-definition households worldwide into Blu-ray households."
He also laid out 29 titles due to be released on Blu-ray in the near future, many of which will have interactive features courtesy of BD-J.
There's nothing spectacular in the announcement, timed purely to try to steal some of the thunder from the other two studios' decision to exclusively support HD DVD. It's certainly doing nothing to help consumers, most of whom I doubt actually want to be converted to one format or another at the expense of their favourite content.
