Not to be left behind by Blu-ray supporting hardware manufacturers, Toshiba has announced its two third-generation HD DVD players for the European market.
Both the HD-EP30 and HD-EP35 support 1080p high definition content, including 24fps playback, as well as REGZA-Link via HDMI — for interlinking with other Toshiba equipment.
The HD-EP35 adds High Bit Rate Audio, up to 7.1 channels, as well as Deep Colour function, via HDMI
It's apparent that the 24fps playback feature was locked away on the HD-XE1 and HD-EP10, so anyone owning one of these can rest easy that this new must-have feature is but a firmware upgrade away.
Back to the new breed of HD DVD player. Both players support Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS HD audio formats, as well as featuring upscaling of standard definition DVDs to 720p, 1080i, and 1080p.
The HD-EP30 is expected to retail for the equivalent of £240, with the HD-EP35 going for just over £300, though we'll have to see what Toshiba really charge us for these new players in the UK when they launch in October.
