Microsoft confirm US price cuts for Xbox 360
Although Microsoft has already announced that Xbox 360 price cuts wouldn’t be coming over here, it’s been confirmed that the price of US consoles will be reduced by $50 starting tomorrow.
The standard 20GB Xbox 360 will now cost $349, while the new 120GB Xbox Elite is also being reduced by $50 to $450 and the core system without a hard drive is $20 less at $280.
Apparently, this has nothing to do with Sony slashing the prices of its PS3 console or the popularity of the market’s leading games console, Nintendo’s Wii.
"In fact, we had this in our plans from the very beginning… and the timing was linked to the release of several highly anticipated video games, including Madden NFL 08," said Aaron Greenberg, group manger for Xbox 360.
According to David Hufford, director of Xbox product management, "The first phase was capturing the core audience, which we've done successfully. Now as we enter our third holiday, we're aiming to expand audience”.
Microsoft has also announced that the green and gold Halo 3 – themed console will go on sale in September for $400.
