Sharp plans to develop LCD HDTVs by 2010 that are only 20mm deep.
The company recently revealed LCD models that measure a mere 29mm at their widest point and this could be slimmed down to 20mm in the future – that’s less than one inch thick.
The screens will supposedly feature 10,000:1 contrast ratios with a panel that can reproduce 150% of the NTSC colour ratio with a 4ms response time. The company hasn’t revealed how large the screens will be yet.
Although specific details of pricing and availability have not been disclosed either, Sharp has said that its Osaka Sakai factory would be ready to produce panels by March 2010 if all goes according to schedule – but, by that time, laser HDTVs could be on the market anyway.
