Sharp has filed a lawsuit against Samsung for the infringement of five patents related to LCD technology.
The complaint alleges that several products including LCD TVs and monitors, infringe related LCD patents that are owned by Sharp. Sharp has requested that the Court award compensatory damages to Sharp and prohibit the sale of infringing products.
Sharp, who began work with LCD technology back in 19070, said it holds numerous LCD-related patents in Japan, the USA and other countries as a result of research efforts, and licenses its patents for general LCD technologies to different panel manufacturers.
The company said in a statement that it, “negotiated in good faith with Samsung for an LCD patent license since 2006, but has regrettably been unable to resolve this matter through negotiations. As a result, the company was compelled to file the current lawsuit to protect its intellectual property.”
Samsung has declined to comment
