Sony claims that the latest games consoles need to feature a Blu-ray drive as a necessity to allow games developers the space in which to create 'true' next-generation titles.
"We took a lot of heat at launch for including Blu-ray in PS3. Now it looks like that investment is being justified. Next generation games simply need more space on the disc to contain all that high definition content," said Sony Computer Entertainment America boss, David Karraker.
He held up the 25GB Lair game as an example of where Blu-ray will take games and said that future titles will no doubt use even more of the 50GB space available on Blu-ray discs.
He may have a point as it’s been revealed that, despite being technically possible, the Project Gotham 4 game will not change track views at different times of the day – simply because there isn’t enough space on a standard DVD.
