Since Amazon let slip by displaying Toshiba’s third generation HD-DVD players on its product pages, the company has come out and confirmed its new range for the US market.
Toshiba is keeping ahead of the standalone player competition with the release of three new players – all costing less than $500.
"Because of the proven manufacturing efficiencies of the HD DVD format, Toshiba can bring this level of innovation in technology to a new generation of players with cutting-edge functionality at affordable prices,” said Jodi Sally, vice president of marketing, Toshiba.
Toshiba’s new range features the entry-level HD-A3, which offers only 1080i output capability. But the accompanying HD-A30 and HD-A35 models will output 1080p and are also capable of outputting signals at 1080p/24 frames per second so users can watch films in their native frame rate. And, both players will feature ‘CE-Link’, which allows two-way control of the player and compatible display using a single remote.
The top of the range HD-A35 also supports Deep Color and High Bit Rate Audio (up to 7.1 channels) via HDMI.
The HD-A30 will be the first to arrive in September ($399) with the HD-A3 ($299) and the HD-A35 ($499) coming in October. Typically, there has been no announcements of when new models will be arriving in the UK.
