Amazon US launches "High-Def 101" microsite
In a bid to educate US consumers, no doubt in the hope that more educated consumers will spend more (or return less), the US Amazon store has launched a "High-Def 101" microsite, offering advice and information on all aspects of HDTV.
It features a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions), though unsurprisingly it's very product oriented. Clicking on a section, such as "HDTVs", brings up rows and rows of pictures of TVs.
However, clicking on the image on the front page brings up various information pages offering product-free advice.
There's also a blog (though there's not much there yet), and discussion forum links.
There are few resources today where the public can find simple and concise information about high definition,” said Peter Faricy, vice president of movies and music at Amazon.com. “Our goal with the Amazon High-Def 101 customer knowledge center is to provide our customers with centralized, easy to-understand information that will help demystify high-definition entertainment. Amazon High-Def 101 is a place where anyone can come to learn and ask questions about the complex HD landscape. We will continue to expand and evolve the site to meet our customers’ needs.”
There doesn't appear to be a specific UK version yet.
