A survey, conducted by NEC, of over 100 attendees at this years' IBC conference in Amsterdam, found that over three-quarters believe that high definition TV should be free to air now, with little support for an expansion of paid-for services in the future.
53% of those surveyed believe that the overall objective of switching from analogue to digital across the EU by 2012 is achievable.
Half of all delegates also believe that IPTV (TV over the Internet) will have the most significant effect o the broadcast industry, while a quarter of respondents believe digital terrestrial TV will continue to dominate.
It's all very well wanting free-to-air HD now, but some CEOs have made their feelings very clear on that just being handed to broadcasters on a plate. The French are leading the way on terrestrial HD services, but by all accounts things are moving rather more slowly here.
