Maplin launches own high definition camcorder
Maplin has announced the launch of its first high definition camcorder, also boasting an 8 megapixel camera.
The story came in yesterday, but was rather thin on the ground when it came to specs. Unfortunately, having just found the product page, things aren't much clearer.
Given the low price and the lack of detailed specifications, I'm a little suspicious of this camcorder, made by Aiptek.
According to the specs, it features "720 pixels with High Definition digital video quality", which I take to mean 720p quality, but is it 720p/30 or 720p/60?
It features a 2.4 inch reversible TFT LCD screen, up to two hours of HD recording on a 4GB SDHC card, support for up to 32GB cards, five megapixel CMOS sensor and eight megapixel still camera, 4x digital zoom, flash, and red eye reduction, built-in speaker and microphone.
Claims that it will only sync with a Windows PC, but then some manufacturers don't bother to check whether Mac OS X will handle it. The camcorder will also connect to a standard or high definition TV.
It costs £199.99, and is available now.
