A complete waste of money if the next generation of dual Blu-ray and HD DVD players can produce at least the same picture and sound quality.

Samsung BD-UP5000 and LG a second-generation dual-format HD disc player, Super Blu Player (model BH200).

If a recordable dual-format Blu-ray and HD DVD with HDMI 1.3b features properly implemented, then buying any Blu-ray or HD DVD player, in my opinion would be a waste of money for people wanting to create an HD library if allowed to record and play back in 1080p. The recordable dual-format player would also have to be a PVR with; twin digital tuners, HD Freeview Playback (one touch serial episode recordings, syncronize the sound and one touch record trailers), record two different channels whilst watching a third channel, at least seven days Electronic Programme Guide (EPG), and pause live programmes.

Panasonic by bringing the marketing date forward by months probably verifies especially how worried Blu-ray is about the dual players.
