Panasonic release new Blu-ray recorders – offering 18 hours of HD recording on one disc
Panasonic has announced its latest line of Blu-ray and DVD recorders in Japan – all featuring monstrous sized hard drives.
The Blu-ray series is comprised of three recorders – the BW700, BW800 and BW900 – with integrated hard drive storage that starts at 250GB and tops out at a massive 1TB, similar to Sharp’s BD-HDW20.
But, the best thing about these new recorders is that they compress HD video at amazing rates, offering about 18 hours using a 50GB Blu-ray disc and up to an incredible 381 hours onto the 1TB hard drive.
All BD models can record to Blu-ray and DVD, support Full HD 1080p images using HDMI and feature i-Link for attaching other high-definition devices like cameras or camcorders.
The DVD series also features three models – XW100, XW200V and XW100 – with a maximum internal storage of 500GB. The slimline units carry an impressive specification including 7.1 audio out and support for AVCHD playback. And, for reasons we can’t fathom, the XW200V also includes an integrated VHS player.
While there are no plans to release any of these models outside of Japan, the advanced technology should trickle down to us in the near future.

Isn't 18hrs on 50GB like admitting they can fit 4 hours on an ordinary dual layer DVD without all the hype and competitive BS.
