SlySoft, makers of the AnyDVD HD disc backup software, have released version 6.1.8.4, which contains an "artificial intelligence scanner" which SlySoft claims makes their software futureproof.
Using similar methods to anti-virus software, AnyDVD now apparently contains heuristic elements which allow it to seek out new methods of copy protection that may be employed in the AACS.
"The AI Scanner in AnyDVD is a new, pro-active copy protection circumvention method," said Giancarlo Bettini, SlySoft's chief executive, in a statement. "It allows the user to make safety backups of his DVD movies even if the newest anti-piracy technology is used. It is our belief that the AI Scanner will even work on protections yet to be released, so we see this as a future-proof technology. This is indeed a hard nut to crack for the copy protection industry."
It will be interesting to see just how successful this software is, as normally hackers have to wait until a new protection system has been released before working on a solution. I'm sceptical that it will work.
