NME to market almost ten dozen movies on HD VMD format

hdvmd.pngOver the coming few months, NME is planning to launch 119 movies on the HD VMD format, which they claim will help it to have a successful launch.

“Currently, we have 110 movies and titles available on HD VMD, most of which will be going on sale by November 1st, 2007. Titles will be available through both an HD Bundle Box with Player and as standalone films. Our roadmap is going to be growing our library of HD titles in each of the regions we are releasing in, the US, India, China, France, Australia, Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, Iceland, and the UK,” a spokeswoman for NME said.

XBitLabs has published a partial list of new titles which includes Bridge to Tarabitha, Gosford Park, I Heart Huckabees, Miss Potter, Oliver Twist, Passion of The Christ, Sahara, Saw II, Scary Movie 2, Sleepy Hollow, Spy Kids, and The Queen.

If they can fit upto 4 hours of HD on a dual layer DVD using mpeg4, why make it incompatible by needing extra layers?
Surely all those media centre PC's are crying out for affordable HD media and can read dual layer DVD now. All they need is a H264 codec and you could fit that on the DVD too!
By all means put all the extra features on extra layers if you must.
