Channel 4's high definition service, announced in September, has today gone live on Sky HD channel 140.
Programmes available at launch include "Ugly Betty", a number of both classic and modern films, plus live music concerts.
From spring next year, "Hollyoaks" will also be filmed and broadcast in high definition.
Channel 4's mission is to innovate and provide its high quality programming across all platforms in formats that consumers want," said Rod Henwood, director of new business at Channel 4. "By launching the UK's first terrestrial simulcast service, we are living up to our reputation as an innovator in television and providing a unique service to our viewers."
Just as with the BBC's new high definition channel, the service is available to anyone with a Sky HD box and an active Sky viewing card.
