BSkyB is to introduce a revamped Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) during 2008, for all Sky HD boxes and newer Sky+ boxes.
Apparently, the changes will include the removal of the current four menu levels, replaced with ten options (TV Guide, Planner, Anytime, Box Office, Interactive, Radio, Search, Parental Control, Options, and Settings).
Importantly, viewers will be able to continue watching their programme while using the new menu. It will occupy about one-eighth of the screen, which probably means that you'll need a fairly large TV to be able to use it comfortably. That's likely the case for anyone with Sky HD.
Other features, such as forthcoming shows, have been streamlined to avoid information overload. This includes the unwieldy A-Z programme search, which will initially show just one episode of a programme being searched for, which can then be expanded if required.
The new menu system also gives a lot more prominence to Sky's interactive and on-demand offerings.
