CES 2008: Lyngdorf premiere D-1 Home Theatre Processor
Lyngdorf Audio will present their D-1 Home Theatre processor at CES this year, a piece of equipment which they boldly proclaim is an audio revolution.
The D-1 introduces Lyngdorf's 8-channel version of their RoomPerfect room correction system which balances frequencies in any room, removing colouration and distortion of the sounds. It uses three-dimension mapping techniques to calculate the energy pattern in the complete sound field. A benefit of this highly technical analysis is that the user has much greater freedom as to where to place the speakers in their room.
The D-1 is a completely digital device, meaning that there's no digital-to-analogue (and vice versa) to contend with, which can introduce problems with the audio such as distortion, hum, or noise.
Its high-end features are supposed to be extremely easy to install, with a one-button user interface which offers pre-defined settings for anything from stereo to 7+7.1 speaker systems.
The D-1 has a wide variety of decoding and post-processing systems and is THX Certified.
It also features the Lyngdorf Link connection, an encrypted proprietary digital link system which combines control and audio signals in one cable. It's fully compatible with HDCP.
The D-1 will retail for around US$17,000.
Additionally, the TDA-2300 is another world first (Lyngdorf claims), a true digital link power amplifier offering a continuous 2 x 300W at 4 ohms. This will cost around US$3,000.
