China should not be ruled out as a massive marketplace for any technology company to succeed in.
Remember that the CH DVD format, developed specifically for the Chinese market, could still do well.
Were Toshiba and partners able to crack this market, they could probably care less for other markets.
CH DVD discs won't play in other HD DVD drives, but HD DVDs do play in CH DVD. It's supposed to help combat piracy.
Flip the coin, and HD DVD supporters outside China will have a hard time arguing that the format could be boosted by Chinese popularity.
China is a huge market, but is highly unlikely to save the format.
