Is bargain basement pricing enough to make you "invest" in HD DVD?

Pocket-Lint has discovered Toshiba's higher-end HD-EP30 HD DVD player being sold at Tesco stores for £179.
"The price of £179 is already low considering the RRP of £250, but add in the 1000 Clubcard points and seven free films and you're looking at practically fire sale pricing."
Question is: would you buy an HD DVD player with a handful of films just because it's this cheap, or is the format beyond redemption?
