PC manufacturer Acer has announced that it will begin pushing Blu-ray equipped notebook computers from the second quarter of the year.
Previously, the company supported both formats, even releasing a PC with dual-format drive. However, it has been a member of the Blu-ray Disc Association for nearly six months, and given HD DVD's current sorry state, it's no surprise.
Scott Lin, president of Acer, also predicted that the strongest sales of Blu-ray equipment would come from the notebook PC sector, not from standalone players, because "most homes do not yet have Full HD (1080p) ready TVs, a notebook with a Blu-ray disc drive and full HD panel will have more advantages over a stand-alone player."
That's possible, though I still think most consumers would prefer a single box that plays Blu-ray discs than having to prop up their notebook PC in the living room to watch high definition movies.
