Biggest retailers switching to Blu-ray
The mass exodus away from HD DVD seems set to continue, as a couple of big names move to Blu-ray.
Over the weekend, Wal-Mart announced that it would no longer stock HD DVDs, while Tesco is considering a similar move.
While neither is a dedicated entertainment retailer (nor is Woolworths) their decision could well make a big difference to the consumer mindset.
Dedicated film collectors may well still shop online, or in dedicated stores, but the impulse purchases of grocery shoppers isn't a market to be sniffed at. Getting "high definition" and "Blu-ray" into the minds of everyday consumers (and hoping that they actually understand what the terms mean) is something that these superstores could easily achieve.
