Japan to clamp down on energy-guzzling LCD and plasma screens
Japan, arguably one of the most technologically advanced countries on the planet, could soon pass legislation that will require TV manufacturers to implement tougher energy-saving standards for their sets.
Though all Japanese appliances must already have an energy star label, but these new initiatives could see extra emphasis placed on larger screens which use a significant amount of electricity.
Panasonic is one company who has pledged to reduce the amount of energy used by its plasma panels, thanks to new technology which cuts consumption without sacrificing picture brightness.
With many countries looking at how much electricity various equipment uses, having the government of a major tech-producing nation take a stand on energy saving has to be a good thing.
