LG to continue developing multi-format high definition disc players

Despite the death of HD DVD, LG has confirmed that it will continue to manufacture its dual format high definition disc players, capable of reading both HD DVD and Blu-ray discs.
Though the machines are still much more expensive than single format machines, and you'd probably be hard-pressed to find a large group of people wanting to buy them, LG seems committed to both formats, and to the early adopters who picked HD DVD.
Daniel Aziz, LG's marketing manager, told Pocket Lint, "There are still a number of consumers who have chosen HD DVD and begun to build a HD DVD collection. LG is still excited about the future of this market... and will continue to do so with more technology evolutions and hybrids which will launch in due course."
I'm not convinced that existing HD DVD owners will want to buy a more expensive dual player. If I'd invested in HD DVD, but knew it was time to go for Blu-ray, I'd wait for the prices to fall and then buy a second player. Yes, it means two boxes, more space required, two power packs, another remote control unit... but saved cash.
We'll have to wait to see just how long LG remains committed to this multi-format approach.
