Will anyone stick up for HD DVD now that Toshiba's pulled the plug?
Samsung has reiterated its intention to focus efforts on Blu-ray in favour of HD DVD, with the Korea Times reporting that the company is set to accelerate its efforts to strengthen Blu-ray products, based on last week's US retailer decisions and Toshiba's own decision.
Though that doesn't give any solid indication on whether Samsung will phase out its dual format players, that position looks likely. The majority of consumers who haven't yet adopted a high definition disc format are unlikely to buy HD DVD now (you'd hope), and I'd presume that existing HD DVD player owners will keep their existing hardware and maybe add a Blu-ray player in due course.
