Sharp to produce 8x speed Blu-ray laser diode next year

Following last month's showcasing of a 6x speed diode, Sharp has said that it expects to have a 300mW laser diode capable of 8x writing speed in mass production by next year, followed by a 400mW diode in 2010.

This should make the format more attractive for anyone wanting to use Blu-ray for data and backup solutions.
