Research from Home Media Magazine suggests that US sales of Blu-ray movies have jumped 351% in the first three months of 2008, fuelled by increased awareness of the format, and Toshiba's decision to pull HD DVD.
This has led to the first rise in consumer spending (by one percent) on home video in two years, compared to near-half a percentage point drop in spending in 2006 and 2007.
Home Media writes that I Am Legend, starring Will Smith, was the number one selling title. Enchanted was second, followed by American Gangster, Bee Movie and 3:10 to Yuma.

Uh huh...
This goes out to a special person from my regular forums:
Where is the "Cheaper format will prevail" FUD now?
Blu baby, told ya! ;)
Technically, that person was right; Blu-ray was the cheaper format. Although the Blu-ray players costed more than the HD-DVD players, at retail stores the Blu-ray media was less expensive. Also, since Blockbuster and Netflix were Blu-ray exclusive that also saved the average video-watching consumer money by not having to purchase the media in order to watch it. However, one the person you speak of had wrong was assuming that HD-DVD was the "cheaper format" just because the player costed less.
