Sky shows off its new high definition EPG

We have known for some time that Sky is to launch a new EPG for Sky HD users, and now the company has shown off the new guide which will be downloaded onto boxes from the autumn.

The guide is presented in high definition, and is continually refreshed from EPG data which allows for full now, next, and later programme information and descriptions to be displayed.

Additionally, an eighth of the screen can be given to the current programme, so users can continue to watch while they use the guide. Searches can include genre and sub-genre, and various programme listings now use stacks to minimise duplication and clutter of show titles.

Brian Sullivan, managing director of Sky's customer group, told Digital Spy, "The HD Sky Guide will make our best TV product even better. Because we believe in giving customers as much choice, control and flexibility as possible, we want to provide an easy way for them to find, store and watch the programmes they love. This is truly an EPG for the HD era."

It's currently under trial in the homes of 100 Sky employees. See the Digital Spy story for more screen shots.
