One million wireless HDTVs by 2012, analysis suggests
While wireless high definition TVs are currently in an "incubation phase", totalling about 100,000 devices currently installed, that number is set to soar to around one million devices by the year 2012.
ABI Research says that, of the three systems currently being used and developed, 5GHz technology is better understood and more proven, while UWB has bandwidth advantages at small distances but drops off at greater distances, while 60GHz technology only currently has one company close to a viable commercial solution.
"Over the next two to three years, we're going to see one or two of these wireless HDTV approaches emerge as the primary ones," said Steve Wilson, ABI's principal analyst.
