Pioneer has announced that it has cut the price of its BDC-S02BKZ combo Blu-ray PC drive in China by over 40%, bringing its price to the equivalent of around £75. It also plans to drop the price of the BDC-S02 in Taiwan to around £115.
The company is hoping for a spike in interest in all things high-def (including Blu-ray) as the Beijing Olympics approaches, much as happened during the World Cup in 2006. Pioneer's move could force other manufacturers to drop their prices, bringing closer Sony's prediction of sub-$100 drives by year end.
