Prediction: Blu-ray dead by 2013 unless indsutry acts now

bluraylogo.jpgDon't get too attached to that new Blu-ray player you've just bought, because by 2013 it could be obsolete, unless hardware manufacturers and content providers act now to ensure that it's a much more attractive to consumers.

That's according to Forrester Research, which suggests that the Blu-ray adoption rate is still far too low, due to the high price of hardware and media, the inability to transfer movies, and the expected surge in high definition downloads.

Of course we know how much technology changes in five years, so the prediction may not be overly fatalistic, merely realistic. Even so, it does make one wonder if it's worth investing in Blu-ray when so much will have changed by 2013. Still, I suppose you can say that about most technology.
