I've just had word that the BBC will be showing the Last Night of the Proms on its HD channel, complete with Dolby 5.1-channel surround sound, for the first time ever.
The "Last Night" marks the end of the summer Proms season each year, and is much loved by many aficionados and casual music lovers alike.
Airing on Saturday 13th September from 8pm.
The final of Maestro, where celebrities compete to win the prize of conducting the BBC Concert Orchestra in front of a crowd of 30,000 at "Proms in the Park", will also be available to watch in high definition next week.
The announcement came via Freesat's PR company, though naturally it will also be viewable on Sky HD.
