Toshiba continues to shun Blu-ray format
It's been over six months since Toshiba pulled the plug on the HD DVD format, and last Thursday maintained its stance on shunning Blu-ray in favour of non-disc technologies.
"We have no intention of adopting Blu-ray for our DVD players and recorders," said Corporate Senior VP Yoshihide Fujii at a "new products" press conference.
The company has already revealed its DVD upscaling technology which it believes can rival Blu-ray. It's highly unlikely ever to return to HD DVD (unless something really positive happens to the format in China). That leaves it without a high definition disc format.
Of course, companies change their minds when market conditions change, but it does seem as if Toshiba and Microsoft would be the last ones to go blue if everyone else did.
