Sharp to launch LCD TVs with Blu-ray recorder in Japan

Sharp has announced that it will be launching a range of LCD TVs featuring built-in Blu-ray recorder. Fans of all-in-one TVs may still be a little disappointed that the AQUOS DX sets won't have a hard drive, so full DVR functionality isn't supported. Nevertheless, it will be possible to record TV broadcasts direct to disc, as well as playing back Blu-ray discs, DVDs, and CDs.

Sets will be available in a range of sizes -- 26-, 32-, 37-, 42-, 46-, and 52-inch -- with prices between about 1,000 and £2,900.

Launching in Japan, where the popularity of Blu-ray recorders is increasing, it's not clear whether they'll make it to the US or Europe. Sharp has said that it plans to launch integrated LCD TVs with Blu-ray players in the US later this year, and in Europe and Asia in 2009.
