She's not the first film director to talk up the Blu-ray format, with Disney's Jon M Chu and Transformers' director Michael Bay both in love with Sony's creation, but Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has spoken of how the special effects look even more dazzling on Blu-ray.
She said that the "sparkle effect" (a key part of the film) on Blu-ray "looks really great" despite being "worried how that would translate".
It's possible that some scenes from the film will be re-mastered for the Blu-ray version to enhance that effect.
"We are looking into to going back to ILM and pushing that scene a little further for the Blu-ray Disc. We have about a dozen deleted or extended scenes to put on the DVD, and I made a couple crazy montages of all the times the vampires kiss or attack someone and of all the human hijinx, and I've done a visual remix of the movie for the DVD (and presumably Blu-ray) also," Hardwicke explained.
The Blu-ray is expected some time in the first half of 2009.
