HDTVUK: What's on TV - Friday 13th February 2009

Don't let the date put you off watching a bit of British high definition telly today. Here are the highlights.

Chat

Tonight's Friday Night with Jonathan Ross (10.35pm, BBC HD) features Dev Patel, Michael McIntyre, Morrissey and Emily Mortimer.

Comedy

There's comedy with Lee Mack and Tim Vine in Not Going Out tonight at 9.30pm on BBC HD. Lucy discovers a side to herself that she never knew existed when Lee and Tim invite a lesbian couple over for dinner.

New comedy begins on Channel 4 HD at 10pm in Free Agents. Starring Stephen Mangan and Sharon Horgan, it charts the on-off romance between two talent agents who are going through emotional crises.

Documentaries

Natural World tonight (8pm, BBC HD) follows Snow Moneys. Japanese macaques, also known as snow monkeys, are one of the most iconic groups of primates on the planet. In 1970 a photograph of one bathing in a hot spring graced the cover of Life magazine. Ever since, Japan's hot-tubbing monkeys have been protected for the enjoyment of tourists at site such as Jigokudai Monkey Park, north west of Tokyo. But elsewhere they lead very different lives, fighting for survival in their harsh and unforgiving mountain home.

Around the World in 80 Faiths sees the Reverend Peter Owen Jones explore Latin America, smoking cigars with Saint Death in Mexico, encountering a radical preacher in Rio de Janeiro, witnesses UFO-worshippers, and ventures deep into a Bolivian mine to meet a terrifying god of the underworld. (9pm, BBC HD).

Films

Pick of the films across the Sky network include The Fugitive (9pm, Sky 1 HD), Control (11.55pm, Sky Premiere HD), Trading Places (8pm, Sky Comedy HD), Rumble Fish (2.25am tomorrow, Sky Modern Greats HD), Platoon (10pm, Sky Drama HD) and Transformers (10.40pm, Sky Screen 2 HD).

Sport

There's live test cricket from 1.30pm on Sky Sports 1 HD, with live Super League from 7.30pm on Sky Sports 2 HD.
