Sony shows off WE5 "greenest ever" BRAVIA HDTV

Sony is making sure everyone knows about the green credentials of this year's line of BRAVIA HDTVs, not least the WE5 40- and 46-inch full HD LCD TVs that feature new display technology that reduces power consumption.
Importantly, the company is claiming a world first with its "micro-tubular" HCFL backlight that's supposed to halve electricity usage. There's also a "smart presence sensor" that switches off the picture when the set isn't being used, plus an energy saving switch that reduces the power consumption to nil (bit like an old-fashioned "off" switch, really).
Other features are much as we've come to expect from the latest BRAVIAs -- BRAVIA Engine 3, Motionflow 100Hz, image blur reduction and the usual gamut of connections including four HDMIs.
Available this spring, pricing to be confirmed.
