Abu Dhabi Formula One Grand Prix could get HD treatment

Although I thought last year's Singapore Grand Prix was lit for high definition, there's interesting news to suggest that this year's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix could get the HD treatment.

As the seventeenth and final race of the Formula 1 season, taking part over the weekend of 30th October to 1st November 2009, it could prove a spectacular finale to the season, but it will depend upon F1 organisers and, in particular, Bernie Ecclestone.

"We have been in negotiations now for two months and we would love to present an international flagship event such as this in HD," said LIVE's MD and CEO Abdul Hadi Al Shiekh in an exclusive interview with DPME.com.

German broadcaster RTL currently co-produces each race in partnership with the country's local broadcaster. If successful, perhaps the 2010 season could get much greater high definition treatment.

Bizarre I thought i'd put my HDTV on to bbchd and star watching qualifying in glorious hidef but I'm not sure what's going on!?! When I search all I get are news items saying abu dhabi may be the first f1 in HD this year. But -nothing- to say "unfortunately it has been announced there is no HD f1" I actually bought an HDtv to watch it in HD two days ago!! Does anybody know anything about this? Am I just not looking in the right place for the coverage?
