Sony has announced the latest additions to its Handycam range of compact high definition camcorders.
Both offer full 1080p HD recording and feature Sony's G Lens and BIONZ Image processing system, which offers better images especially in low light conditions, plus the ultra-high resolution Exmor R™ CMOS Sensor
There's also Optical SteadyShot that stabilises recordings in three directions, geotagging, face detection, three-inch LCD, and recording to either internal memory or memory stick.
Audio-wise, there's full 5.1-channel surround sound recording too.
The CX520VE comes with 64GB of onboard memory which means up to 25 hours of full HD recording before needing to upload it to a PC, while the lower capacity CX505VE has 32GB of memory, which will store about 12 hours of footage. Both models can also record to Memory Stick media of up to 32GB capacity.
When connected to a high definition TV via the camcorder's HDMI output, the Handycam automatically converts interlaced video signals to 1080/50p, for a better TV display.
These Handycams are also the first to be compatible with the USB VRD-P1 DVDirect Express and VRD-MC6 DVDirect, two compact DVD burners that can store both standard definition and AVCHD format video.
The two new Handycams will be available from August, pricing to be confirmed.
