In a new four-part series, Billy Connolly: Journey to the Edge of the World (9pm, ITV HD), the comedian sets off on an epic journey across Canada, by way of the fabled Northwest Passage.

Meanwhile, Channel 4 HD at 9pm shows Cutting Edge: Britain's Cojoined Twins: Hope and Faith. Eighteen-year-old Laura Williams and her husband Aled found themselves in the media spotlight after their cojoined twins, Hope and Faith, were delivered at Great Ormand Street Hospital in November last year.

Or, on the BBC HD channel at 9pm, Penelope Keith and the Fast Lady sees the actress retracing motoring pioneer Dorothy Levitt's 1905 journey from London to Liverpool.

Fans of Robin Hood can rest easy in the knowledge that it won't be long before Jonas Armstrong returns to our Saturday night TV schedule.

The BBC has announced that Hustle has been recommissioned for a sixth series, to be shown in 2010.

BBC shows the first part of Nature's Great Events tonight at 9pm on BBC HD. This episode looks at The Great Melt, as every summer, Arctic ice recedes and opens up three million square miles of ocean and land to millions of animals. How do polar bears survive what is for them the toughest time of the year?

In November the BBC announced a high definition remake of Day of the Triffids and now it has announced the cast.

Dougray Scott, Joely Richardson, Brian Cox, Vanessa Redgrave, Eddie Izzard and Jason Priestley will star in this two-part drama written by Patrick Harbinson (ER, Law & Order).

The drama is still in production with no official date of broadcast, except that it will be later this year.

Head of drama for BBC Wales, Julie Gardner, said, "The incredible cast lined-up for The Day Of The Triffids is testament to the quality of Patrick Harbinson's script. We hope audiences, both old and new, will be captivated by this modern take of John Wyndham's classic best-selling novel."

Though Russell T Davies is probably right when he suggests people won't stop watching Doctor Who just because it's not in high definition, there's no doubt that a HD version of the hit sci-fi show would be amazing.

The main issue cited has always been that of the number of special effects used, in comparison to a show like Torchwood.
